|The first few weeks of school often lay a foundation for the remainder of the school year. Students are getting acquainted with teachers, some of who they immediately connect with and others whom they do not. Many students are starting new schools, just as my daughter is beginning her first year at middle school. And, they are interacting with old friends while meeting some new ones along the way as well. Lots of changes for many!!
Setting up a good homework routine right from the start will reap benefits all year long. Here are a few suggestions to help:
1. Start with a snack—most kids are very hungry when they come home from school.
2. Set a time—ask your child when it would work well for them to do homework.
3. Put them in charge—teach your child that it is their responsibility for completing the assignment. If they forget spelling words, have them call a friend. If they forget a math book, have them see if it is available online.
4. Stay positive—encourage them while they are working hard. Don’t emphasize only the mistakes.
Have a blessed day,
